What every cat owner should know
Welcome to Saint Meows
a non-profit no-kill cat shelter
MEET THE CATS
Come meet the kitties...we hold adoption hours every Thursday night at our Davis Sq. location. For hours, location, and directions, visit our adoption page.
"PLAY DATES AVAILABLE"
St. Meows is now offering play dates as a new way to adopt out kitties And so far, those who have adopted from us this way has loved the process. Play dates give adopters an opportunity to spend a day, even a weekend with a kitty or kitties they are interested in, before adopting them.
If the play date goes well, the cat can remain in the home and the applicant would only need to finalize adoption paperwork with St. Meows. Play dates are only available to approved adoption applicants and is an option offered to applicants at the discretion of the shelter. Play dates may not always be an available option. For more information, please stop by during adoption hours.
Looking for some new threads without spending a "spool" of money, check out the garment district, a St. Meows supporter and one of the coolest clothing retailers around (they're company trademark is a cat!!!!)
(Pictured here Sinatra, slated for euthanasia prior to coming to St. Meows due to behavorial problems and Kelly, also slated for euthanasia before coming to St. Meows after being deemed feral.)
A national treasure penned by Boston native Molly Baskette, Senior Minister, First Church of Somerville.
Leave it to a person with great compassion for humans to find a way to help those of us who have suffered the loss of a pet. (Click on the book for more info and/or to order.

HELP US HELP THEM
St. Meows has found itself caring for an unprecedented number of abandoned animals, particularly those with special needs. In one week's time, a very sweet cat was surrended by its owners because they didn't want to "deal" with treating her kidney stones. Another cat surrendered by its owner due to the arrival of a baby, came down with hepatic lipidosis, a liver condition brought on my depression. And we took in a cat slated for euthanasia at another shelter after it was determined it would need critical wound care. They joined a league of other long-term residents here, among them, two cancer cats, a 14-year old diabetic cat, and of course beautiful bLatte, who has been at St. Meows since 2002. Like many of our residents, she is a true feral, doesn't want to be touched, but does want to eat, be warm, bat a jingle ball now and then, and hang out with other kitties.
Sadly, we are also seeing an especially sharp rise in dumped house cats, indoor pets who have suddenly found themselves outside fending for food and shelter amidst plenty of competition. Sometimes, we literally peel away layers of filth and blood before we discover we have a house cat. Take Lollipop, he came in spitting, hissing and biting. Surely we had another hard core feral on her hands. But, as it turned out, underneath all that matting and dried sludge, was a severely injured and very painful leg, so badly abcessed at the shoulder, it was causing him, not only acute cardiac pain, but, also severe respiratory distress. After getting his leg fixsed up, our feral turned into a sweet , young Maine Coon .
St. Meows is among only a handful of shelters in the U.S. that do this kind of work. Unfortunately, during this economic crisis, it has taken a financial toll on us.
Meanwhile, we continue with the rescues we are best known for - pulling cats from sewer drains, houses of squalor and unearthing litters of kittens from beneath junk cars.
We know money is tight for all of us. We are not asking you to give what you don’t have. But we are asking for whatever help you may extend to us. As the saying goes “every little bit counts.” And right now, we could all the help we can get.
Please use the “Donate” button on our donation page or if you prefer, send a check made payable to St. Meows to: St. Meows c/o First Church of Somerville, 89 College Avenue, Somerville, MA 02144.

corrius.com We've had some pretty bizarre computer failures here at St. Meows from a cat peeing on our computer and frying the hard drive to our operating system just up and crashing. In every case, we've counted on Corrius to get us through it - quickly, honestly, and affordably. The owners also happen to be huge cat lovers.
Adult volunteers desperately needed! We especially need help with field rescues of strays and abandoned cats. This would require some mininmal training. We also need help with the transport of cats to and from various places and event and the distribution and posting of flyers for adoptiong and fundraising events. Please email us or stop by during adoption hours if interested in volunteering for St. Meows. And thank you for caring. Attention parents: We will resume our volunteer program for children ages 11 through 17 in September.

St. Meows now recommends Premium Edge. Anyone who knows us knows we are aggressive advocates of feeding a quality diet and will not endorse something inferior for the sake of receiving it free. It's preventive medicine afterall! (for both your cat and your wallet). Premium Edge is comparable in quality to higher-priced food we recommend such as Innova, California, Natural, and Holistic Eagle-Pak. We still highly tout these foods, of course, but if you are looking for something a little less money without compromising quality, you might want to look into Premium Edge.
